Aims: The aim of this project is to acquire morphometric, moult and breeding data from inland birds that are otherwise known mainly from skins.

Site Description: Dry interior north and east of the Mulga/Eucalypt Line, extending to remote areas of the inland deserts and the Kimberley.

Other Information: Expeditions are carried out once or twice a year and are usually of a month’s duration. Access to the study sites requires a 4WD vehicle, fully equipped with long-range fuel tanks, adequate water storage capacity, survival and rescue gear.  Usually no less than three vehicles take part. HF radio linked to the RFDS network is essential and at least one vehicle must be equipped with one. Ancillary research into desert vertebrates and arachnids are part of each expedition.
